According to the sampling surveys conducted on 2,560 rural households in 30 cities, counties and districts, the annual net income per capita of rural residents reached 5,079.8 RMB yuan in 2006, up by 8.1% over the previous year, or factually up by 6.4% with price factors taken into consideration. The average living consumption per capita of rural residents reached 3,886 yuan, up by 4.6%. Among the eight major aspects of consumption, five increased while the other three decreased. In the order from increase to decrease, the average consumptions per capita are as follows: 634.0 yuan on housing, up by 19.6%; 443.5 yuan on transportation and communication, up by 7.7%; 1,887.2 yuan on food, up by 5.5%; 151.2 yuan on clothes, up by 19.6%; 121.2 yuan on other goods and services, up by 4.3%; 148.6 yuan on household appliances and necessities, down by 2.3%; 197.0 yuan on medical care, down by 3.4%; 303.4 yuan on recreation, education and leisure, down by 15.9%, of which 178.9 yuan was on miscellaneous expenses on kids schooling, down by 23.8%. The Engel coefficient for rural residents reached 48.6%, up by 0.3 percentage points. The residential space per capita for rural residents reached 26.6 square meters, an increase of 0.89 square meters. Rural residents living in houses of reinforced concrete structure account for 65.1%, up by 1.5%. Rural houses with flushing toilets account for 57.1%, up by 3%.


In 2006, the annual disposable income per capita for urban residents in Guangdong reached 16,015.58 yuan, up by 8.4% over the previous year, or factually up by 6.5% with price factors taken into consideration. The average consumption per capita reached 12,432.22 yuan, up by 5.3%, or factually up by 3.4% with price factors taken into consideration. The steady increase of income was due to the increase of salary, business net income, property-related income and transferred income, the amount of which were respectively 13,031.33, 1,339.38, 565.47 and 2,789.37 yuan, up by 6.2%, 28.4%, 35.5% and 10.5% respectively. The income of interest increased by 9.6% over the previous year, that of dividend and bonus by 67.7%, that from apartment rental by 29.5%, and that from property sales by 1.8 times. The average floor space per capita for urban residents in Guangdong reached 34.11 square meters, an increase of 0.93 square meters or up by 2.8% over the previous year.
