By the end of 2006, a total of 17,288,000 people participated

 in basic social insurance in Guangdong including 15,815,000

 in corporate basic social insurance, up by 10.5% and 11.1%

over the previous year respectively. Total social insurance

fund Guangdong collected in 2006 amounted to 53.2 billion

 yuan with accumulated balance totaling 102.7 billion yuan,

 up by 22.6% and 25.2 billion yuan respectively. Corporate

basic social insurance fund reached 49.3 billion yuan in 2006

 with a total accumulated balanceof 89.9 billion yuan, an increase

 of 24% and 23.2 billion yuan respectively. Guangdong leads the

country with regard to the number of social insurance participants,

 fund collection and accumulated balance.
 
Social insurance for farmers and land-expropriated farmers totaled

1,294,000 including 417,000 eligible to receive a monthly average

 pension of 200 yuan. 6 prefecture level or above cities including

Dongguan, Shenzhen, Zhongshan, Foshan, Zhuhai and Guangzhou

 implemented social insurance system for farmers and land-

expropriatedfarmers in an all-round way.
 
Guangdong's participants in unemployment insurance totaled

12,139,400 in 2006, a year-on-year increase of 7.36% and

832,700 respectively, continuing to be national leader with

respect to participant. Total unemployment insurance premium

 amounted to 3.76 billion yuan, up 16.26% and 526 million yuan

 respectively. A total of 1,329 billionyuan of unemployment

 insurance compensation was paid for 314,700aid-offs and

497,600 migrant workers, a decrease of 48 million yuanand

 3.49% respectively.
