Guangdong is rich in mineral resources, particularly rare and nonferrous metals. Altogether 131 kinds of mineral reserves have been found in the province and the prospects of reserves have been proven for 97 kinds of minerals, ranking top 3 in terms of its minerals reserve. Among them, the reserves of kaolin, Peat, metallurgical gangue, trachyte for cement making, germanium and antimony rank the first in China. The province is blessed with diverse varieties of animals and plants. The spindle tree and China fir are on the Grade I Plants List of State Protection. On the Grade II Plants List of State Protection are 24 kinds of tree like fossil tree, wild lychee, while 41 kinds of plants are on the Grade III Plants List of State Protection, including Guangdong Pine, Tsuga Longibracteata, Wild Longan, and Antiaris Toxicaria. And twelve plants are on province-level protection list, such as Taxus Chinensis (Pilg.) Rehd and Sanjianshall. In addition, banana, lychee, longan and pineapple are four of the most popular fruits in Guangdong. On the Grade I Wildlife List of State Protection are 22 kinds of animals, such as South China tiger, clouded leopard,

Assamese Macagu, and China white dolphin. On the Grade II Wildlife List of State Protection are 95 kinds of animals, including Asian golden cat, sambar, pangolin, rhesus monkey and kallege. Guangdong has vast oceanic resources with annual aquatic product output of four million tons, including ocean and offshore fishing, cage culture, human-cultured oyster and shrimp. The surface of sea culture amounts to 775,700 hectares with 208,200 hectares in actual use. The output of sea-cultured pearl in Leizhou Peninsular ranks the first in the whole country. Therefore, Guangdong Province takes the lead in oceanic and aquatic products.
