Population By the end of 2006, Guangdong Province was home to 93,040,000 people, the third largest province in China in terms of population. Specifically, 58,620,000 people, or 63% of the population, live in the urban area while 34,420,000 people, or 37% of the population, live in the rural area. Most of the urban population concentrates in the Pearl River Delta. People living in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Jiangmen, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Huizhou and Zhaoqing take up 62.84% of the total population in the Province. In terms of the age structure, people aged between 0 and 14 make up 20.52% of the population, those between 15 and 64 make up 72.06%, and those aged 65 and above make up the remaining 7.42%.

Overseas Chinese Since ancient time people had engaged in offshore trade or emigrated abroad initially and mostly through Guangdong Province. With an overseas Chinese population of over 20 million people, accounting for two thirds of national total and living in over 100 countries and regions, Guangdong Province is China's most important hometown of overseas Chinese.
