Ethic Groups Guangdong is a multi-ethnic province inhabited by all the 56 ethnic minority groups in China. The population of Han ethnic group amounts to 85,000,000 while that of the minorities is 1,640,000 people. The Zhuang, Yao, She, Hui and Manchu peoples account for the majority of the minority's population in the province. Since implementation of the reform and opening-up policies, over one million of ethnic minority people have moved into Guangdong Province on permanent or temporary basis for employment, marriage, and business. Most of them live in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Foshan, Zhongshan, and other places in the Pearl River Delta.

Religions There are five major religions in Guangdong, namely, Buddhism, Taoism, Islam, Catholicism and Christianity. By the end of 2006, followers of all kinds total about 1,500,000. Among them, 620,000 are Buddhists, 190,000 Daoists, 100,000 Muslims, 230,000 Catholics, and 350,000 Christians. In Guangdong Province, there are 2606 places for religious activities and 8412 religion professionals.
