Chinese Share Prices Drop Amid Fear of Recession in U.S.
Chinese share prices posted the biggest drop in nearly eight weeks after heavy overnight losses on Wall Street, amid renewed fears of an economic recession in the United States. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, tumbled 153 points, or 2.8 percent, to 5,290. The Shenzhen Component Index was down 682 points.

First Flight from Kuala Lumpur to Guangzhou Arrives Today
The first flight from Kuala Lumpur to Guangzhou conducted by budget airline Air Asia arrived at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport this morning (January 16). The lowest price for a single trip to Guangzhou is 188 yuan, and travelers who use advanced on-line booking can enjoy special discounts. It is Air Asia's fourth route in China, after Macao, Xiamen and Shenzhen.

Guangzhou Named Base for Outsourcing
The Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Information Industry and the Ministry of Science and Technology recognized Guangzhou as China's base city for out-sourcing services today. According to a press conference held today (January 16), Guangzhou's turnover from providing outsourcing service exceeded over 5 billion USD in 2007.

Passenger Flow through Guangzhou Railway Station to be Limited
During the upcoming Spring Rush, the daily passenger flow through Guangzhou Railway station will be kept to within 180,000. The railroad department announced the measure today (January 16) in a bid to ease the railway transportation pressure. Spring rush, the peak travel season during which migrant workers and students living in Guangzhou travel back home for the Chinese New Year celebration, will start January 23rd this year.

New Pension Plan Announced
A new pension adjustment scheme for Guangdong retirees was announced today (January 16). The pension level will increase by about 10% on average.
