Bus Route Adjustment Proposal to be Announced Today
The head of the Guangzhou communication commission said that Guangzhou's bus route adjustment proposal, to be announced today (April 11th), features more buses during peak hours and closer connections between bus lines and the metro, in order to relieve crowdedness. Citizens and industry insiders expressed their opinions about the changes. Our reporter Li Hongzhong has more.

An authoritative survey showed that nearly 50% of all citizens are not satisfied with the city bus service, especially the crowdedness on buses during peak hours. In response to the new adjustment most citizens welcomed the move, but some citizens had different opinions.
"It is hard to avoid the peak hour for going to and getting off work. The only way to address the issue is to shift work schedules."

Insiders advised:

"Making changes in the bus routes is a relatively efficient way to address the traffic issue, but the changes should take the citizens' use of the transportation means into consideration. A suggestion is to make the bus routes better connected with the metro. "

Air Quality to be Improved for Asian Games
Guangzhou is expected to join hands with other cities in the Pearl River Delta in an effort to improve air quality for the upcoming 2010 Asian Games. A proposal was announced by Guangzhou authorities that 50 measures will be adopted to tackle bad air quality, including hazy weather conditions.

Price Increase Approved for Edible Oils
According to the Guangdong price control bureau, some edible oils have been approved for a price increase, the first such move since the bureau conducted temporary price intervention measures in January of this year.

Holiday Charter Flights Close
Guangzhou's cross-straits charter flights during the tomb sweeping holidays closed yesterday (April 10th); 483 passengers enjoyed the service.
