President Hu to visit Japan in early May Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu announced recently at a regular press conference that Chinese President Hu Jintao will pay a state visit to Japan from May 6 to 10. Hu's visit will be the first by a Chinese president to Japan over the past decade, and also his first foreign visit after being re-elected as Chinese President. Jiang said China hopes that Hu's visit will enhance political trust, deepen practical cooperation in various fields and expand people-to-people exchanges, in a bid to jointly promote strategic and mutually beneficial relations.
Chinese Stock Index Bouncing Back to 3,600 points Chinese stock markets this morning continued their upward trend with the Shanghai composite index bouncing back to 3,600 points, closing at 3,656, more than a 3% rise. The Shenzhen component index closed at 13,326, an increase of 445 points.
