Soldiers to Unblock Tangjiashan Lake with Explosives
About 1,600 armed police officers and People's Liberation Army soldiers rushed with explosives to unblock Tangjiashan Lake, a debris-clogged river threatening to flood homeless quake survivors. Earlier attempts to send military helicopters on the same mission were hampered by adverse weather and low visibility. Vice Minister of Water Resources E Jingping said Sunday that all barrier lakes are "under control" but the situation is still grim, threatened by heavy rains in the forecast for the next three days.
