Top Guangdong leaders met with 1500 representatives of investors in Guangdong today (May 27) to honor their outstanding contribution to Guangdong's economic development since Guangdong's opening-up. Our journalist Chengang has more: 
Secretary of Guangdong CPC Committee Wangyang gave high appraisals to these business people:
"From the winter disaster, to SARS, from the flood in 1998 to the Sichuan Earthquake, investors in Guangdong have shown a strong sense of responsibility and a positive image. They should continue this effort. Only companies with social responsibility should be recognized by society. "
Guangdong's economic volume ranks top in China for 23 consecutive years, due greatly to the achievement of investors in Guangdong.

Two Strong Aftershocks Hit Southwest China
Two aftershocks measuring above 5 on the Richter Scale shook Shannxi province and Sichuan province this afternoon (May 27). At 4:30 in the afternoon, a 5.7-magnitude quake hit Shannxi's Ningqiang County and earlier, at 4:03, Sichuan's Qingchuan County recorded a 5.4-magnitude aftershock.

Guangzhou to Ban Tobacco on May 31st
Guangzhou will ban cigarette sales for one day this Saturday (May 31) to mark the 21st World No-Tobacco Day. At a conference held today, a Guangzhou government report advocated the ban of smoking in public places through legislation.

NASA Probe Sends Back Never-Before-Seen Images from Mars
Media reported today (May 27) that the most ambitious mission to date to find life-sustaining minerals on the red planet, NASA's Phoenix Mars probe, sent back never-before-seen pictures of Mars' north pole Monday. The pictures from the probe confirmed that the solar arrays needed for the mission's energy supply had unfolded properly. The photos also showed that the masts for the stereo camera and weather station had swung into vertical position as planned.
