Rainfall Expected to Decrease in Three Days

The continuous rainy weather has negatively affected vegetable crops, causing vegetable prices in the Guangzhou market to soar. In household appliance shops, dryers have become good sellers. A saleswoman said:
"we have sold more dryers recently because clothes are hard to dry during the rainy weather. We sell up to 35 machines per day."

Guangdong Allocates 10 Million to Relief Fund
The Guangdong Civil Affairs Department yesterday (June 16) allocated 10 million yuan in aid for anti-flood efforts. In addition, work teams were dispatched to direct anti-flood measures in the worst-hit regions of Zhaoqing and Jiangmen cities.
Roads Seriously Damaged by Rainstorms
The torrential rainfall in Guangdong province has damaged seven national highways, 68 provincial highways and 153 county-level roads within the province. As of yesterday afternoon (June 16), all seven damaged national highways and most of the provincial highways had been repaired and traffic was resumed. The government will set aside 330 million yuan for further repairs.
Pearl River to Rise to Record High
In the next four days, water levels of the Pearl River in Guangzhou are expected to rise two meters higher than usual due to the collective influence of rainfall, floods and the high tide. The situation is not estimated to threaten the safety of Guangzhou.
Construction Begins on Mobile Buildings for Examinees
A Guangdong aid team has begun construction of 686 mobile buildings in Sichuan's Abazhou to accommodate over 4000 national college entrance examinees. The college entrance examination in Abazhou was postponed to July, one month late, due to the devastating earthquake.
