Ban Ki-moon to Visit China
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has said he is looking forward to speaking with Chinese government officials as well as Chinese youth about their collective involvement in world affairs, one of the top issues on his agenda ahead of his arrival in Beijing Today (July 1).The UN chief is on a two-week, three-nation official visit to East Asia. He is scheduled to meet with President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao and Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi tomorrow, after visiting AIDS patients and touring Olympic facilities and venues.

Chinese Mainland Tourists Start Historic Taiwan Holiday on Friday
According to the National Tourism Administration yesterday(Jun 30), a group of 760 Chinese mainland tourists will start an historic journey to Taiwan on Friday. Holidaymakers from Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Xiamen and Guangzhou will stay in Taiwan for 10 days, while a small group of officials from China's tourism authorities will pay a seven-day visit. Among them, 106 are from Guangdong Province.
Jet Fuel Surcharges Raised
China will increase jet fuel surcharges for domestic flights starting today(July 1). The surcharge for each passenger flying less than 800 kilometers will rise to 80 yuan from the current 60 yuan, and for those flying more than 800 kilometers the surcharge will rise to 150 yuan from the current 100 yuan.

Sunny Days Expected
As of yesterday afternoon(Jun 30), 873.9mm of accumulated rainfall, three times the average national level, has been measured in Guangzhou for the month of June, a record high. However, heavy rains are coming to an end and sunny days are expected for the next few days.
