Central Government Allocates Water Conservancy Funds
The Central Government recently allocated 15 million yuan to support Guangdong's restoration of water conservancy facilities after the province's recent flood problems. 388 reservoirs and power plants were damaged, along with 2,158 embankments. 

GZ Government Welcomes Citizen Representatives
The Guangzhou Municipal Government this morning welcomed the visit by a delegation of 30 citizen representatives. The launch of the "open door" day is meant to promote mutual understanding between administrations and citizens. Another open door day for visits to other governmental departments will be launched in September.

Pearl River in Guangzhou to Reach Record Level
It is expected that the water levels of the Pearl River passing through Guangzhou will escalate to their highest over the next two days, exceeding 22 meters or 0.7 of a meter over the limit.

Guangzhou/Lechang Expressway Passes Evaluation
A feasibility research report on the construction of the Guangzhou/Lechang expressway has passed an evaluation. It is expected that when construction completes by the end of 2013, the expressway will create a safer alternative for cars as the current Jing' Zhubei expressway is fragile, particularly during natural disasters. The construction will start as early as 2010.

Competitiveness Study, Guangzhou and Shenzhen Top-Ranked
A research report comparing competitiveness among China's major cities issued by the Guangzhou Academy of Social Sciences indicated that Shenzhen and Guangzhou are top-ranked in terms of comprehensive competitiveness.
