Chinese Mainland Tourists Start Historic Taiwan Holiday
The first cross-Straits weekend charter flight from China's mainland to Taiwan landed at Taipei Taoyuan airport early this morning (July 4). The historic flight, which took off at 6:31 am from Guangzhou, arrived at around 8:10 am after a 1,124-km journey.
More than 100 mainland tourists aboard the Airbus A330 of China Southern Airlines (CSA) became the first group of people on a sight-seeing tour allowed to Taiwan amid warming cross-Straits ties. Our journalist Lin Shuhua has more:
A tourist is very excited for the journey:
"I think two eyes are not enough because there are so many wonderful moments. I'm using DV to film all these unforgettable sights. For everyone, today is unforgettable."
A flight attendant abroad the plane talked about the preparation:
"We've made full preparation for this journey. Flight attendants receive training on all kinds of knowledge, from dinning to broadcasting on board. We broadcast in both Mandarin and Taiwanese."
