Guangdong Launches 10 New Projects Guangdong (July 4) will launch a 5-year scheme to promote the construction of 10 key projects, in order to further boost the development in the economic powerhouse. The 10 projects, involving infrastructure and major industries, include increasing Guangdong's oil refinery capability to 100 million tons per year by 2012.
Chinese Mainland Tourists Start Historic Taiwan Holiday The first cross-Straits weekend charter flight from China's mainland to Taiwan landed at Taipei Taoyuan airport early this morning (July 4). The historic flight, which took off at 6:31 am from Guangzhou, arrived at around 8:10 am after a 1,124-km journey. More than 100 mainland tourists aboard the Airbus A330 of China Southern Airlines (CSA) became the first group of people on a sight-seeing tour allowed to Taiwan amid warming cross-Straits ties. Our journalist Lin Shuhua has more: A tourist is very excited for the journey: "I think two eyes are not enough because there are so many wonderful moments. I'm using DV to film all these unforgettable sights. For everyone, today is unforgettable." A flight attendant abroad the plane talked about the preparation: "We've made full preparation for this journey. Flight attendants receive training on all kinds of knowledge, from dinning to broadcasting on board. We broadcast in both Mandarin and Taiwanese."
