Liu Xiang Quits Men's 110m Hurdles Over Heel Injuries
A post-race press conference was lunched 20 minutes after Liu Xiang's pulling out of the men's 110m hurdles. Liu's coach Sun Haiping said Liu's quit was due to his Achilles' tendon in right foot. Sun Haiping broke into tears in the press conference while hailing his student as a "fighter."
"Liu has tendon injury and his injury is right the position that under stress. He has been fighting all the time and he was fighting with his fortune as warming up into the first round of the competition."
Chinese athletics head coach Feng Shuyong said that he had talked to Liu after his withdrew.
"Liu was very upset about the result. Liu said he would never ever give up if his injuries were tolerable. He kept in good condition before last Saturday. Unfortunately, he exacerbated the tendon injury in his right foot in last Saturday's training. After the Athens Olympics, the only target of Liu was to defend his title in the Beijing Games. He has been making tremendous efforts in the past four years."

Chinese President to Visit Three nations, Attend SCO Summit
According to the Foreign Ministry, Chinese President Hu Jintao will pay state visits to the Republic of Korea (ROK), Tajikistan and Turkmenistan from Aug. 25 to 30. President Hu Jintao will also attend the eighth annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to be held on Aug. 28 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan's capital.
Internal Revenue in GZ Exceeds RMB100 Billion
According to Guangzhou Municipal Office of the State Administration of Taxation, It took seven months in 2008 - three months less than 2007- for the internal revenue to exceed RMB100 billion in Guangzhou, up by 21.43% (RMB17.743 billion) compared with the same period of last year.
Chinese Shares Slid More Than 5 Percent Today to a 20-month Low.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index tumbled 5.33 percent, or 131 points, to 2,320. The Shenzhen Component Index closed at 7,833 points, down 400 points, or 4.86 percent.
