Provincial Government Implements Science and Technology Contest Poll
Guangdong province implemented an opinion poll today (August 2) hoping to accelerate, attract and develop high-level creative professionals. Prizes are set to attract talents. Each year, the province will award 30 million yuan to 2 persons who perfom deeds of merit and 5 million to 5 people making outstanding innovative contributions. To the team who introduces a world advanced technology leading to great economic contributions and social benefits, the government will fund up to 100 million yuan for research. 11 categories of high-level creative professionals, including talents from Hongkong, Macao, and Taiwan as well as abroad were confirmed in the poll.
Housing Plan Implemented for Low Income Families
According to the Director of National Territory & Housing Administration Bureau of Guangzhou, Mr. Xie Xiaodan, the bureau has created a housing construction plan for next 5 years. It is based on research conducted on behalf of low income citizens experiencing housing problems. It states that, 74.2 thousand with building coverage of 4.63 million square meters of housing be supplied. The plan aims to solve housing problems of more than 70 thousand low income families registered in 2008 by 2010.
50,000 Meters Sidewalk for Blind People Reconstructed
Over 50,000 meters of Sidewalk have been reconstructed for the blind. The reconstruction commenced in May. 18 main parts along Zhongshan Road and Dongfeng Road are the focus. 5,000 meters more are expected to be completed by the end of this month.
Special Line Begins Construction
The first ever cross country--special line for passenger trains started construction yesterday(Aug 20). The underground train station is located in Futian district, the central area of Shenzhen. The expected speed is 300km per hour and will run underground after it enters Shenzhen city. After completion it will take half an hour to travel from Shenzhen to both Guangzhou and Hongkong.
