Construction Halted for Ttyphoon Nuri's Arrival
The 12th typhoon of this year-Nuri, the strongest so far, is to hit landfall at the mouth of the Pearl River along the Huidong and Taishan cities this afternoon till midnight tonight. Guangdong marine department issued an ocean wave red alert for the first time this year. Showers and heavy storms are expected in Guangzhou and most areas of the province during this weekend. Due to predicted heavy winds, construction of the Guangzhou Television Tower as well as other projects has been temporarily suspended. In case of force nine winds, the over ground section of metro line 4 will be halted.
Japanese Version of Guangzhou Municipal Government Website Launched
The Guangzhou Municipal Government Website has launched a Japanese version. The website targets Japanese people working or studying in Guangzhou, as well as for tourists. It also covers Guangzhous local history, sightseeing, economy, trade and useful information about daily life in the hope of facilitating life for Japanese citizens in the city.
Average Lifespan of Guangzhou Females Near 81
According to a report complied in 2007 the average lifespan of local women in 2007 was on average 81 years. The data from the Guangzhou Women and Children's Development Planning was released by the Municipal Statistics Bureau. The report shows that the local female lifespan averaged a respective 5.7 and 3 years higher than that of males and city dwellers.
Hong Kong's Consumer Prices Rise 6.3%, and Macao 9.2% in July
According to the Census and Statistics authorities in Hongkong and Macao yesterday, Hong Kong's consumer price index rose 6.3 percent in July over the same month last year, and was up from June's 6.1 percent rise. Macao's inflation rate as measured by Composite CPI (consumer price index) rose by 9.22 percent year-on-year in July.
Chinese Shares Down 1.09%
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index is down 1 percent, or 26 points, to 2405 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed at 8101 points, down 141 points, or 1.7 percent.
