World Bank Offers Closer Ties with Guangzhou
Guangzhou is expected to ink the second round of cooperation with the World Bank to further improve the city's transportation. Guangzhou first joined the World Bank back in 1998, as the city launched a comprehensive plan to improve traffic conditions, such as the construction of inner-ring roads and vehicle emission control. The World Bank offered a loan totaling 180 million US Dollars to facilitate Guangzhou to implement the plan. The plan was successfully carried out after ten years.
Nuclear Power Plant Reaches First Phase
The first phase of construction on Guangdong's Taishan nuclear plant broke ground yesterday (Aug 26th), the fourth nuclear plant being built in the province. According to the plan, if the fourth nuclear plant is put into operation by 2020, it will cut the coal consumption by 60 million tons, and lead Guangdong as the first province featuring the use of clean energy.

Guangzhou Mayor Inspects Transportation Development
Guangzhou Mayor Zhang Guangning made an inspection tour yesterday (Aug 26th) on the city's Baiyun airport expansion project. He also examined the preparation work prior to the operation of the Asia-Pacific Hub for Fedex. Zhang urged the airport expansion to gather pace and be put into use by the first half of 2010, for the upcoming Guangzhou Asian Games.
