Paralympics Relays Set to Begin
The lighting ceremony of the Beijing Paralympic torch relay was held at the Temple of Heaven. An "Ancient China" route and a "Modern China" route will start in Beijing tomorrow, meeting again on September 5 to continue the flame's tour in Beijing. Shenzhen city is "Modern China's" first stop. Daily torch relays will match the Beijing Olympics arrangement.

China's GDP Grows 10.4% in First Half, CPI Rises 7.7%
Vice minister of the National Development and Reform Commission, Zhu Zhixin, reported yesterday (August, 27th) that China's GDP rate grew slowly at 10.4% in the first half year, decreasing 1.8 percent from last year. China's consumer price index (CPI) also rose in the first half of the year, gaining 7.7% over the same period last year.
Beijing Promises Integrated Subway Service for Disabled
The Beijing Subway Operation Company said staff and volunteers will provide help services for the disabled during the Paralympics. Disabled travelers can soon call the subway service center for all route information. Staff will help the traveler from buying tickets to getting out of the subway. Obstacle-free equipment has been installed in the stations.
Guiyang-Guangzhou High Speed Railway and Express to Start Construction
According to the Deputy Director of Agriculture of southwest Guizhou province, Mr. Wu Chenbin, Guangzhou citizens will enjoy more green goods and vegetables from Guiyang, capital city of Guizhou province. Construction of a high speed railway and express way connecting Guizhou with Guangzhou is expected to start within a year, finishing by 2010. This will reduce travel time between Guiyang and Guangzhou from currently 20 to 5 hours.
Body of New TV Tower Completed
The body of the new 454-meter-high TV tower reached completion today. Construction lasted two years and completion is a new landmark for Guangzhou. It will rank first as the highest tower in the world.
