A Safety Golden Week Holiday Ends
Ending yesterday Guangdong had a safe National Day Golden Week Holiday. According to the Guangdong Public Security Department, the province witnessed a drop in cases of public security and traffic accidents compared to last year. Guangzhou, the capital city of Guangdong Province, saw business boom during the holidays. Guangzhou reached record heights in the number of travelers by rail and by air, whilst the city¡¯s industry sector generated nearly 4 billion Yuan, a growth of almost 10% over the same period last year. Guangzhou¡¯s seven major department stores boasted sales approximating 500 million Yuan and experts believe that the thriving holiday economy indicates that the gold week holiday is good for consumption. Mr. Peng Peng from the Guangzhou Academy of Social Sciences said it is necessary to keep the golden week.
The original purpose of establishing the golden week holiday was to encourage domestic consumption. Meanwhile, it also guarantees the public enough rest as the annual leave is not widely implemented. Also, the National Day Golden Week Holiday becomes even more important now that the May Day Holidays have been cancelled.
Heavy Rainfalls Continue in the Next Three Days in Guangdong
The Tropical Storm HIGOS brought heavy rainfalls to Guangdong with most parts of the Province experiencing downfalls to thunderstorms yesterday. Guangdong Meteorological office forecasts heavy rain over the next three days.
