Dairy sector regulation beefed up
A draft regulation to raise standards and improve supervision of domestic dairy products was approved in principle on Monday (October 6) by the State Council, China's Cabinet, amid a nationwide milk contamination scandal. The new regulation details the supervision of the entire dairy chain, from cow rearing, to the collection and purchase of raw milk, and finally to the production and sale of dairy products. It also clarifies the responsibilities of governmental agencies, and stipulates punishments for negligent inspectors and those who add toxic materials to dairy products or violate production safety rules.
Stricter Control On Carry-on Liquid
Beginning from October 10th, a stricter control of carry-on liquids will be conducted on all passengers flying from China to Australia. According to the new regulation of the Australian government, passengers are only allowed to carry the following 4 categories of liquids: duty-free liquids purchased at the terminal and claimed at the boarding gate; liquids sold on board; liquids that pass security check and approved infant milk products or medicine.
Traditional Chongyang Festival Celebrated Today
Today (October 7th) is the traditional Chongyang Festival, in which Chinese people will traditionally go climbing in the mountains to drink chrysanthemum wine. The Festival falls on the ninth day of the ninth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, so it is also known as the Double Ninth Festival. Last night, Guangzhou's Baiyun Mountain received large numbers of climbers, who believed that hiking higher in the mountains assured promotions or a higher position in society. However, as of midnight, less than 60,000 citizens had climbed the mountain, only half compared to last year.
