The Third Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee to Open

Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) members will meet from Oct. 9 to 12 in Beijing to discuss major issues about promoting reform and development in the rural areas at the third Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee.

American, Japanese Scientists Share 2008 Nobel Prize in Chemistry

The Nobel Prize committee announced yesterday that Yoichiro Nambu from America and Japanese Makoto Kobayashi and Toshihide Maskawa were the winners of the 2008 Nobel Prize in physics for their research on symmetry at microscopic levels. Nambu from the University of Chicago was awarded the prize "for the discovery of the mechanism of spontaneous broken symmetry in subatomic physics". Meanwhile, Kobayashi and Maskawa were honored "for the discovery of the origin of the broken symmetry which predicts the existence of at least three families of quarks in nature".
