Chinese farmers' income to double
The nation has set a goal of doubling per capita disposable income of rural residents by 2020 from the 2008 level. The target was set at the end of the 3rd Plenary Session of the 17th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, which focused on rural reform and development. A communique issued at the plenum's conclusion yesterday (October 12) said that the government will substantially boost rural residents' consumption and eliminate absolute poverty in rural areas by 2020.

The competition has also attracted expats living in the city. Alberto, an American who has been working in Guangzhou for 3 years shared his ambitions,
"Hopefully I can help other Chinese volunteers, perhaps, to practice their oral English to prepare them better, because we are going to have a lot of international spectators, 14,000 athletes, coaches and journalists. People from all over Asia are coming. "
