Canton Fair to See More Guangdong Exhibiting Companies
The biannual China Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, will start its autumn session tomorrow (October 14). Statistics from Guangdong's Foreign Economic and Trade Bureau show a 13% increase in Guangdong-based companies. Figures also indicate that the number of manufacturing companies and privately-owned companies is rising.
Guangdong Developed Products Feature Items for Everyday Use
The 10th China Hi-Tech Fair being held in Shenzhen is presenting 74 exhibitors from Guangdong, with 47 privately-owned enterprises, accounting for over 50% of the total number of participants. Their exhibits feature items for everyday use. Our reporter Lai Lingling has the story:
Guangzhou Fengyuan Energy Company developed a solar street light, now being used in Kunming city and proven to be a success. Li Dequn, General-manager of the company explains,
"It will offer lighting from both solar and wind power. It will turn on at night and shut off in the day when the sun shines."
The invention is expected to be an energy-saving tool for Guangdong's expressways.
Europe Mounts Massive Rescue Bid
In Paris yesterday, Germany, Britain and France announced a massive financial rescues plan as governments across Europe stepped in, to shield banks and restore confidence amidst the worst financial crisis in nearly 80 years. Although governments are preparing for a long period of economic weakness, they hope the measures announced Monday will help restore confidence in the financial system.
